Concewrned about humidity in a snake cage (Dumeril Boa)
Question
I like your website! I benefited from your article on Dumerils Boa care since I recently added one as a pet. I have a Boamaster cage but I'm confused as to which humidity range is best for Dumerils boas. Some care sheets say that they come from an arid environment but then assert that they should be kept at 60% humidity!
Your care article didn't address the question of humidity for a Dumerils Boa. What would you suggest?
Thanks much for your help. Scott
Answer
Hi Scott,
There is a natural humidity in the air that is proportional to the temperature of the air. As long as you have some open bowls of water in the cage and the temperature of the cage is correct, I think you will find the humidity will take care of itself.
That is, the water will naturally evaporate into the air in the cage and make its own humidity. You can add other things in there to increase it, like moist moss, but I think as long as your snake is able to shed skin easily there is probably enough humidity in the air.
Hope that helps.
Hope this helps
